As we settle into this autumn season, it’s important to remember to take some time for ourselves. Fall is generally filled to the brim with activities to do with friends and family. While this can be so fun, if you’re anything like me, it can also be a bit draining.
That’s why during the fall I commit to getting some self-care in. I made a list of my 10 favorite fall-themed self care activities that I challenge you to make time for this season:
1. Spend some time in nature
If you feel like you’ve spent more time looking at photos of fall leaves online than actually being outdoors, it might be time to get some fresh air. I love fall because as the leaves change, the beauty of nature is brought right into our neighborhoods for us to enjoy. It doesn’t have to be anything extraordinary, but make sure you go outside to enjoy a morning coffee, go on a walk, hike, bike ride, or whatever floats your boat to soak it all in!
2. Bake a fall dessert and share it with someone you love
Pick out one of those fall recipes you’ve been eyeing and go for it! There’s nothing better than enjoying a fall treat. Plus, delivering fall goodies is a great excuse for a low-key way to spend some time with someone you care about. (no judgement if you keep your fall dessert for yourself, though ?)
3. Have a cozy night in by the fire
Cuddle up with a blanket, fall scented candle, and hot chocolate for a cozy night in. If you’re lucky enough to have a night to yourself, make it a self care night by setting the ambiance. Then, grab a book or a movie and relax the night away.
4. Prepare your skin for the colder weather
I don’t know about you, but I can already feel my skin getting drier. Invest in some hydrating skin care products this fall and pamper your skin. Having hydrated and moisturized skin makes such a difference as the weather starts to turn.
5. Try out a new fall recipe and indulge
You don’t need to wait until thanksgiving to make a decadent fall meal! Find some comfort food you’d like to try, and make it for a homemade meal for just you. It’s a good opportunity to treat yourself, but also try a new recipe for future reference!
6. Paint pumpkins
Doing something creative can be extremely relaxing and mood boosting! While it may seem like painting pumpkins is just an activity for kids, try it out this fall. There’s some great examples floating around the web of more modern & mature pumpkins that you could use for decoration. You might be surprised how much fun you have, too.
7. Paint your nails fall colors
Step out of your usual rotation and try a new fall color. Not only is this a relaxing activity in itself, but it will make you feel so confident and put together when picking fall outfits.
8. Volunteer at the food bank
In the midst of this season of thanks giving, it’s important not to forget about those who may not have the same blessings as ourselves. Find a way to give back in your local community . Whether that be volunteering your time at a local food bank, contributing monetarily, or something else, go out of your way this fall to help out in your community.
9. Treat yourself to a pumpkin spice latte
Many of us try to save money by less frequent visits to the Starbucks, but if you can, treat yourself to a fall beverage this year at least once. (Repeat as necessary)
Pumpkin spice is a classic, but there are so many others I want to try like the Salted Cream Cold Brew and S’mores Cold Brew.
10. Start your morning by writing a gratitude list
We celebrate our thanks on thanksgiving, but it would do us a lot of good to think of the things we are thankful for way more frequently than just once a year. One morning this fall, try starting your day with a gratitude list
That means before doing anything else, grab a pen and paper and write down 5 things you’r thankful for in life. They can be big or small things, the key is acknowledging them. Better yet, make a habit of this and you’ll see improvements in your mood and wellbeing over time.
It’s easy to get lost in the swing of things, and forget that the magic of fall is only temporary. My challenge to you is to be mindful of this fall season and do all you can to celebrate and enjoy it while you can. When winter comes, you don’t want to be regretful of all the fall activities you didn’t do. I hope this list provides you with some ideas on how to celebrate fall with self-care in mind ?
