Let me tell you, I do not mess around with getting a good nights sleep! Over the years, I’ve tried several routines, hacks, and vitamins to help with better sleep.

And this TikTok viral sleepy girl viral is one of the best yet! I was instantly sold on the sleepy girl mocktail because it used some key ingredients that I actually already had incorporated into my night routine. I thought it was such a great idea to incorporate those same ingredients into a fancy lil’ night-time beverage.

So I made my own twist on the original sleepy girl mocktail that adds even more sleep-supporting ingredients, inspired by cherry pie, one of my favorite desserts. 🍒 🥧

This dessert-inspired drink is the perfect before-bed treat that you can actually feel good about!

What is a sleepy girl mocktail?

Drinking a nightcap before bed is about one of the least healthy habits you can have for good sleep. Even if drinking alcohol helps you fall asleep, it’s absolutely horrible for the quality of your sleep. Alcohol disrupts your sleep cycles, leading to reduced sleep quality and more frequent awakenings throughout the night, ultimately preventing restorative sleep.

The sleepy girl mocktail is a trendy nighttime beverage that serves as a healthy alternative to the classic nightcap. Not only is it healthy, the sleepy girl mocktail has several ingredients and nutrients that support a restful night’s sleep.

The sleepy girl mocktail went viral on TikTok and since then, creators far and wide have been making their own variations on the classic drink.

This cherry pie inspired sleepy girl mocktail stays fairly true to the original, but adds a few extra ingredients to make it even more decadent and luxurious.

What nutrients in a sleepy girl mocktail support good sleep?

Almost every ingredient in this mocktail is included because it has sleep-supportive qualities. Here’s what you need to know:

  • 🍒 Tart Cherry Juice: Tart cherry juice is a natural source of both tryptophan and melatonin, which support healthy sleep. Increased serotonin levels can help create a sense of calm, making it easier to fall asleep. Additionally, the melatonin found in tart cherry juice can help regulate your sleep-wake cycle, improve sleep quality and increase sleep duration, making it a beneficial addition to your nighttime routine.
  • 😴 Magnesium powder: I have been taking the magnesium powder in this recipe for years, and I highly recommend it. A magnesium supplement supports better sleep by promoting relaxation and reducing stress. Magnesium helps calm the nervous system, relax muscles, and regulate melatonin, the hormone that controls your sleep-wake cycle.
  • 😌 L-Theanine: L-Theanine is another relaxation supplement I’ve started taken by the recommendation of Dr. Andrew Huberman. L-Theanine is an amino acid that promotes better sleep by encouraging relaxation without causing drowsiness. It works by increasing levels of calming brain chemicals like serotonin and dopamine, which help reduce stress and anxiety. L-Theanine also enhances alpha brain wave activity, associated with a relaxed but alert mental state, making it easier to fall asleep and stay asleep.

We’ll combine these sleep-supporting ingredients with a few other delicious touches to make our mocktail:

Other ingredients you’ll need

  • Bourbon vanilla bean paste (optional): There is no actual alcohol in this, don’t worry! You can get this at Trader Joes. I like it because it makes this beverage taste more like cherry pie than just cherry. You could also use a dash of vanilla extract.
  • Squeeze of lemon juice: The lemon compliments the cherry nicely and can also be used as garnish.
  • Pre-biotic soda, sparkling water, or coconut water: TBH, I swap this out for whatever I have in the fridge! I like to use sparkling water because it is less sweet most often. Also, if you don’t like to drink bubbles before bed because of acid reflux, coconut water works wonders!
  • A dash of cinnamon (optional): Just another cherry-pie inspired ingredient.
