I love starting my day with a delicious drink that feels like a little luxury, and my banana cookie cream cold brew does just that!
I was loosely inspired Inspired by the banana cold brew at Disneyland I saw on TikTok, and wanted to make a homemade version that lets me enjoy a fancy beverage without spending $7 on a latte.
It’s super easy to make and brings that coffee shop vibe right into my kitchen. This drink is also similar to the Starbucks cream cold brews, where the flavors come through in the creamy topping but is still fairly coffee forward.
Banana Cookie Cream Cold Brew Ingredients
Here is everything you’ll need to make this banana cookie cream cold brew recipe alongside some recommendations:
Cold brew coffee
The base of this coffee beverage is a cold brew coffee.
Cold brew coffee is different than regular iced coffee because it is made by steeping coarsely ground coffee beans in cold water for an extended period, usually 12-24 hours. The slow brewing process results in a smooth, mellow flavor with lower acidity.
This less-acidic but still bold flavor is why it’s my personal favorite way to drink coffee! Not only that, but it’s a great base for creative concoctions like our banana cookie cream cold brew, adding a rich coffee taste without any bitterness.
There are a few ways you can make cold brew at home:
Option 1: Pre-brewed store bought cold brew
Most grocery stores have bottled cold brew near the coffee creamer you can easily grab and use for this recipe. Just make sure you check the sugar contents if you don’t want it to be too sweet! Some come with added sugar.
Option 2: At-home cold brew pitcher
I have one of these from Amazon at home and I love it. It’s a great way to make a batch of cold brew at home that will last a week.
To use it, you just add coarse coffee grounds and cold water, shake it up, and then let it brew in the fridge for 24-48 hours. This truly makes coffee-shop quality cold brew so I highly recommend.
Option 3: Coffee maker with cold brew option (this is what I do)
I also have a Ninja coffee machine that allows me to make cold brew coffee in just 10 minutes. The flavor is comparable to how it tastes when brewed for an extended period, but I can make it super quickly in the morning and don’t have to prep in advance.
For that reason, this is my personal favorite way to make cold brew at home. I love this coffee maker and would highly recommend it!!
Beans for cold brew coffee:
You can use any coffee beans if you are making cold brew at home. Just make sure that they are ground to be coarse instead of fine for it to brew properly. I would recommend a cookie flavored bean with no sweetener for this recipe!
Chobani hazelnut creamer
This creamer is AMAZING. I used the hazelnut creamer because that’s all they had at the grocery store (since it’s going viral on Tiktok).
But I was really looking for the cookie flavored creamer as I think it would go better with the recipe.
The creamer is a bit sweet so if you prefer minimal sweetness I would either skip this or just add a tiny bit.
Homemade banana whipped cream (recipe included)
If you’re not making whipped cream at home— you should be! It’s truly soo easy and tastes way better than store-bought whipped cream.
Here is how to make banana flavored whipped cream for this recipe. You’ll need:
- 1 medium ripe banana
- 1 ¼ cup whipping cream
- 1 tablespoon powdered sugar
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
First, you’ll mash the banana super well in a small bowl. The less ripe your banana is, the harder it will be to mash out all the chunks. You want this to be a goopy liquid consistency.
Then, add the whipping cream (COLD), powdered sugar, and vanilla extract to a large bowl or kitchenaid. Whip with the mixer until peaks form.
At this point, continue to mix, slowly adding the banana mixture.
Careful not to over-whip, or you’ll accidentally make butter!!
Vanilla wafers
These are just for garnish to take your drink to the next level!
Cinnamon
And a dash of cinnamon for garnish!
Assembling your drink
Once you have all the ingredients, assembling your drink is pretty self explanatory! Just add your ice and cold brew to a cup of your choosing and add creamer to taste.
Then, top with your homemade banana whipped cream. Add a vanilla wafer or two and sprinkle with cinnamon.
Voila! A perfect banana cookie cream cold brew.
Storing your banana whipped cream
You can store your left-over banana whipped cream in the fridge for up to a week, or in the freezer for up to two months!
If you find the cream is not as “whipped” as when you first made it, you can re-whip it with a bit of extra sugar and cream to bring it back to life.
